Have you ever had a dream that seemed sooooo real that you woke up and it seemed like it really happened?
I had a dream last night that my youngest daughter married an older and controversial celebrity. I gasped when I woke up. Not only did it seem real, but I actually felt the emotions in me for quite some time after waking up.
At times, our thoughts can be like bad dreams! They seem so real, but in reality, they are just faulty perceptions and assumptions we are making, and the emotions that go with them can be really big…..just like my dream.
Sometimes when we think we know the answer to something, we stop listening and our brain fills in the blanks with our own data. The data we use, may or may not be what the other person is saying or sharing.
We often listen like this when our kids are speaking, which is why one of their biggest complaints is “you never listen to me”.
Why do we do this? Because we think we know where they are going and what they are trying to say so we stop listening and fill in the blanks from our own data.
Pay attention to the next time you are in a conversation and you think you know the answer. Just notice, how intently you are really paying attention.
Could you pass a test on the content and the real meaning behind it?
Proverbs 20:5 “The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.”
