Are you stressed?
We probably should start by defining what stressed is: a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.
💥Mental or emotional strain or tension can come from many different arenas, but this definition says from adverse (preventing success or development; harmful; unfavorable) or demanding circumstances.
💥Wowza! When I think about his deeply, I get stressed when I cannot control things and I bet you do too!
💥So how do we choose to deal with things that are out of our control?
💥For me, I need to remind myself that the only thing I can control is myself. Mostly, when there is stress, I need to pay particular attention to my emotions. Our emotions are indicator lights, they are neither good or bad, they just are there to tell us something is off. I'm not talking about stuffing our emotions, but about looking at them and deciding if I will be ruled by them. There is a difference!
💥Another helpful thing to do is to look at the circumstance and evaluate what went well, what didn't go well, what you want to do differently going forward. This helps us learn and grow from our stressful circumstance, which puts us in a growth mindset and also shifts our perspective a bit.
💥Sometimes I practice putting on empathy when it comes to dealing with others in stressful situations. Empathy is putting yourself in someone else's shoes for the moment. This helps me to bring compassion to the stressful situation.
💥Taking time out to pause, deep breath, pray and/or meditate on things that are positive, true and pure before I tackle the situation, helps to clear my mind of big emotional hijacks and self pity.
