Does the early bird always get the worm? Yes, of course, unless you are a procrastinator. A procrastinator is a person who habitually puts off doing things. Recent neuroscience research suggests that people who procrastinate have lack of self-regulation skills. An article in Psychology today states, "Procrastination has many faces. Sometimes it’s simply choosing pleasure over discipline. Sometimes it’s an attempt to avoid something negative. And sometimes it’s getting paralyzed by overwhelming expectations." If you ask a psychologist, procrastination is using avoidance to cope with emotions, many of which are unconscious. Many procrastinators would rather be living in the present, having fun, then doing the task at hand. If you are procrastinating because you don't know where to start, then life coaching may be helpful for you. For many, the project at hand may seem overwhelming. Through life coaching, your coach will help you break down the steps necessary to make progress on your project. Sometimes just talking through these steps decreases the anxiety about the project itself. What steps can you take today to work toward the dreaded, unfinished project you have waiting for you?
