Have you been the victim of hurtful words? I'm sure we have all experienced this at some point in our lives.

This quote really spoke to me today: “Yes, a person can accept your apology and forgive you for what you’ve said, but they will never forget how you made them feel at that very moment. Words can stick in a person’s mind, heart, and spirit long after the words have been spoken. Don’t be in denial; words have GREAT power. Be wise when you speak!” ― Stephanie Lahart

In our closest relationships we tend to be relaxed in the way we communicate and in the process, sometimes spew forth hurtful words. Just like in this photo, our words can crush someone.

Our words have the power to help or hurt and sometimes hurt people hurt others. Next time you are feeling hurt by something, pause to consider your response.

Ask yourself, what really needs to be said right now? How can I best communicate it?

Our words matter and generally speaking, if we start our statement with: "You always", "You never", or "you should"; we are approaching the situation from a place of judgment rather than curiosity.

What things need to be adjusted in your communication?
